Geoffrey W Stump started making ski films with his brother Greg in 1984 when Warren Miller’s formulaic ski movies were unchallenged in the fall theaters. Geoff was in the midst of a competitive freestyle skiing career that saw him amass U.S. National and Nor-Am titles and named to the U.S. Freestyle Ski team six times. He and his brother took some video gear and a few old 16mm cameras and produced the films that would change the look of action sports media forever. The Stump brothers introduced audiences to satirical comedy, extreme skiing, cutting edge free skiing and ski bum reality in movies like The Blizzard of Ahhs, Maltese Flamingo, The Good the Rad and the Gnarly and several others.
In 1990 Geoff changed directions and founded the 8750 Reggae Band. For the next 10 years he would record and play music internationally with a host of talented musicians including grammy award winners Earl “Chinna” Smith, Dean Frazer, Wilburn “Squidley” Cole and many others. His recording “Piece by Peace” by Stumpa & Gathered Nation was released in 1999 and was called “one of the best American reggae recordings of the year.”
